Red Hook Tavern and Hometown Deli, two new restaurants from Hometown Bar-B-Que owner and pitmaster Billy Durney, are now slated to open “by March,” Hometown’s Lianna Durney told NYC BBQ today.

The restaurants were originally supposed to open in October 2018, but Durney and crew officially postponed the openings late last year. Hometown told me the openings had been pushed to January, but it looks like they need a little more time to get everything ready for the two new projects. Both of the openings are highly anticipated given Billy Durney’s success with Hometown Bar-B-Que, one of the top BBQ joints in all of NYC.

Red Hook Tavern will be located a few blocks away from the flagship Hometown Bar-B-Que in Red Hook, Brooklyn. The restaurant will serve fried chicken, burgers, Southern sides, natural wines, and other elevated “tavern fare,” which will ensure it doesn’t compete with the barbecue offerings at Hometown down the street. But the chicken and burger will likely be worth traveling to southwest Brooklyn for.

Hometown Deli will be located in the Industry City complex in Sunset Park, Brooklyn. It will serve sandwiches and smoked meats that take inspiration from Jewish delis like Katz’s and Russ & Daughters. Expect to find killer pastrami, corned beef, and egg salad there when it opens.

We’ll report back once we have a firm opening date for each project.
