The Food Network New York City Wine & Food Festival (NYCWFF), one of the city’s largest annual culinary events, will return to the city on Oct. 13-16 with tons of tastings. Once again, burger and barbecue fans will especially want to keep their eyes on two of its largest sessions — the Blue Moon Burger Bash on Thursday, October 13, and the Backyard BBQ on Sunday, October 16.

(Note just for my readers: Use the code NYCBBQ15 to get 15% off Backyard BBQ tickets.)

Both the Burger Bash and Backyard BBQ take place at Pier 86, home of the Intrepid Museum on the west side of Manhattan. Each gathering will feature chefs and pitmasters from around the country serving up dishes that will make your tastebuds shout. The two sessions will also have plenty of indulgent drinks, sides, and desserts for attendees to enjoy.

The Burger Bash will feature a top-notch lineup of chefs and cooks, mostly from the NYC area. They include:

  • Matt Abdoo and Shane McBride of Pig Beach NYC

  • Jae Lee of Nowon

  • Andy D'Amico of 5 Napkin Burger

  • Amanda Cohen of Lekka Burger

  • John Karangis of Shake Shack

  • Helen Nguyen of Saigon Social

  • Jason Casey of Mister Dips

Chef, author, and TV personality Rachael Ray will host the Burger Bash. Celebrity judges will include Peloton instructor Ally Love, Super Bowl Champion and former New York Jet Willie Colon, original Man vs. Food host Adam Richman and Emmy Award winner and host of WNBC's New York Live Lauren Scala.

The Backyard BBQ will feature a ton of pitmaster and chef talent from New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut, including:

  • Billy Durney of Hometown Bar-B-Que

  • Matt Abdoo and Shane McBride of Pig Beach BBQ

  • John Stage of Dinosaur Bar-B-Que

  • Joe Musngi of SmoKing of Meats

  • Ed Randolph of Handsome Devil BBQ

  • Leland Avellino of Avellino Family Barbecue

  • Bret Lunsford of Blue Smoke NYC

James Beard Award-winning chef and TV show host Andrew Zimmern and acclaimed Italian butcher Dario Cecchini will host the Backyard BBQ. There will also be live music to jam to while attendees are sampling the goods.

The Backyard BBQ has a more laid-back and family-friendly atmosphere versus the Burger Bash. But that doesn’t mean the food options aren’t just as good. The 2021 version of the NYCWFF BBQ event featured incredible bites, including pastrami beef ribs, whole hog, brisket sliders, smoked duck wings, and Filipino pork belly burnt ends.

The Burger Bash and Backyard BBQ will be some of the biggest barbecue and food events held in the New York City area for the remainder of 2022, so don’t forget to grab tickets if you’re getting hungry.
